Hello! my name is...

Vania Garcia

I am a first-year attending the
University of North Carolina
Chapel Hill

About me

I am a Mexican American woman who was born and raised in North Carolina. As a result, I am fluent in both English and Spanish. I recently graduated with my high school diploma from the Alamance-Burlington Early College and my Associate's in Science from Alamance Community College. My goal is to study Health Policy and Management at UNC Chapel Hill and then attend optometry school to become a licensed NC optometrist.

My Experience

Throughout high school, I have had one job and one meaningful club position.

Hostess at East Coast Wings +Grill

Seated people, took in-person and over-the-phone food orders, answered phone calls, bagged to-go orders, communicated with servers and cooks, and performed cleaning duties around the restaurant.

Server At East Coast WIngs +Grill

After being promoted, I learned to multitask between ringing in food, maintaining a hospitable demeanor, running food, and satisfying each table's additional needs. In addition, I have developed valuable social skills to connect with any guest of any age or background, as well as de-escalate situations regarding customer dissatisfaction.

President of the Colors For Coats Club

Colors For Coats Inc. was a nonprofit founded to raise awareness of health disparities. It is now inactive. However, the club at my school lives on. I transformed the club into a public health awareness and health profession exploration club aimed at inciting discussions on the current health disparities affecting various types of health conditions.
As president, I oversaw board meetings, reached out to health professionals to serve as guest speakers at my high school, and facilitated club member activities, such as designing health-awareness social media posts and poster boards.
